We grew up around Vietnamese culture where everyday products were made with care, purpose, and pride. Coffee was just one part of that world. It showed up in quiet mornings, long conversations, and moments of pause—but it also represented something bigger: craftsmanship, resourcefulness, and respect for where things come from.

Today, Sampan operates out of California and Vietnam. When we couldn’t find Vietnamese products that felt both authentic and thoughtfully designed for modern life, we decided to build them ourselves. Coffee was the natural place to begin. It’s familiar, personal, and deeply rooted in Vietnam. But from the start, Sampan has always been about more than what’s in your cup.

The name Sampan comes from the small wooden boats that move through rivers and canals across Southeast Asia. They carry goods, people, and stories from place to place. That idea of movement and connection guides everything we do—bringing well-made Vietnamese products into new contexts without losing what makes them meaningful.

We work closely with partners and makers in Vietnam who understand their craft, their materials, and their communities. Whether it’s coffee or future product categories, we focus on quality, balance, and intention. No shortcuts. No unnecessary complexity. Just products that are honest, functional, and designed for everyday life.

Sampan is built for how people actually live—busy mornings, workdays, travel, and moments in between. From our home base in California to our partners in Vietnam, we prioritize simple formats, clean design, and products that don’t ask too much of you. You shouldn’t need special equipment or insider knowledge to enjoy something well made.

This brand is personal to us. It’s a way to honor Vietnamese craftsmanship while reimagining how it shows up today. Coffee is our starting point, but Sampan is a growing platform for Vietnamese products—many makers, many stories, and many more to come.
